Many of my clients come to me hoping for a five-star trip to Italy, and one of the most useful things I can do is help them understand what that costs before they fall in love with a plan. Hotel rates in Italy during the summer surprise almost everyone, so I want to show you real numbers, for a real itinerary, so you can plan with clear expectations.
Some context on how I approach this: before I was a travel advisor, I spent years in investment research, and I still look at pricing and data all day long. Even so, I’m sometimes floored by Italian hotel rates in summer. The reason is simple: Italy is never out of season for demand. It draws affluent travelers from the US, Europe, the Middle East, China, and everywhere in between, and the best hotels fill months in advance. When you book a summer stay in Italy, you’re competing for a limited number of rooms with travelers from around the world.
My goal with this post isn’t to discourage anyone. It’s to make sure that when we plan your trip, every dollar is going where it matters most to you. If you’re already thinking about Italy next summer, book a consultation and we can start with your dates and priorities.
How to read these numbers
The rates below are for June, and they’re fairly representative of July, August, and most of September. All rates include breakfast and are refundable, though cancellation policies tend to be stricter in summer. This is especially true on the Amalfi Coast, where properties are small and demand is very high.
These are entry-level rooms. That can mean no view, a smaller room, a ground-floor location, or a spot next to the elevator. Views, more space, and suites come at a premium above these figures. (One thing to watch out for is rooms smaller than 20 sqm. Anything less than 20 sqm is pretty tight for a couple!)
Hotels in Italy price in euros. I’ve converted rates to US dollars for convenience, but exchange rates move, so your final cost will vary somewhat from what you see here. Local city taxes, typically paid directly at the hotel, are also additional.
For each destination, I’m showing two options: our absolute favorite five-star hotel, and a great alternative. The alternative is a very dependable five-star property that, based on all the data I review, offers strong value for what you get.
Lake Como | June 15–18
Our Favorite Lake Como 5 Star: Rooms from $4,400 per night
A Great Alternative: Rooms from $2,100 per night
Venice | June 18–21
Our Favorite Venice 5 Star: Rooms from $2,700 per night
A Great Alternative: Rooms from $1,400 per night
Tuscany | June 21–24
Our Favorite Tuscany 5 Star: Rooms from $3,700 per night
A Great Alternative: Rooms from $1,700 per night
Rome | June 24–27
Our Favorite Rome 5 Star: Rooms from $2,600 per night
A Great Alternative: Rooms from $1,400 per night
Amalfi Coast | June 27–30
Our Favorite Amalfi Coast 5 Star: Rooms from $3,400 per night
A Great Alternative: Rooms from $1,700 per night
What the full trip costs
This itinerary is 15 nights: three nights in each of five destinations. For hotels alone, in one entry-level room:
Choosing the great alternative in every destination: about $25,000 (roughly €22,300, or about €1,500 a night)
Choosing our favorite in every destination: about $50,000 (roughly €44,500, or about €3,000 a night)
Euro figures are based on the October 2026 exchange rate of about $1.12 per euro.
These totals cover hotel stays with breakfast. The totals don’t include international flights, transfers between destinations, private touring, or dining beyond breakfast. Families or groups needing a second room or connecting rooms should plan on roughly double.

Finding the right balance
Most of my clients don’t land at either end. The right choice isn’t always the most expensive hotel. It’s often worth splurging where the setting is the experience, like Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast, and choosing a strong alternative in places like Venice, Tuscany, or Rome. That mix on this itinerary comes to about $37,000, or roughly €33,000 at the October 2026 exchange rate. Building that kind of balance, based on what you value most, is where an advisor adds real value.
Booking through Antidote Travel also gives you access to my preferred partner relationships, which often include added benefits such as room upgrades when available and on-property credits, at the same rate you’d find booking direct.
Ready to start planning?
The best rooms at these hotels are often gone by winter for the following summer, so the earlier we start, the more options you’ll have. If Italy is on your list, let’s talk about how to build a trip that feels right for you, both in the experience and the investment.
