From the Dolomites to Thailand: Resorts that Help You Live Longer

Cortina in the Dolomites

My dad has dementia. A stroke last month made it worse. Of course, it makes me sad. But it’s also made me think a lot about my own aging process, and what I want my final years to look like.

Mostly I want to keep moving, keep traveling, and remember all of it.

This past week, I attended a presentation about Rosapetra, the small spa resort just outside Cortina. They're opening a Valmont longevity spa soon. (Valmont is a luxury anti-aging brand.) After everything I've learned about dementia these last few years, I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

Longevity is the biggest shift I've seen in hotel wellness in years. Diagnostics. DNA testing. Doctors on staff. It’s fascinating, really.

If you’re thinking about how to live your best life, but longer, here's where I'd send you.

The Dolomites

Rosapetra Spa Resort, Cortina d'Ampezzo (Virtuoso)

Rosapetra is a small Small Luxury Hotels of the World property about 2.5 km outside Cortina, with the Tofane right out the window. The spa was already the reason to stay: a 12-meter indoor pool facing the mountains, an outdoor sauna with an even better view, and Valmont treatments. The new longevity spa takes that a step further! While the launch date hasn’t been announced yet, it’s coming up soon!

There's a free shuttle into Cortina and to the lifts, so you can ski or hike in the morning and do the spa in the afternoon.

ADLER Spa Resort Balance, Ortisei

If you want the full medical version, this is it. ADLER Balance won Best Longevity Program in Modern Luxury's 2026 awards. It's adults-only, with preventive medicine, diagnostics, detox, nutrition, and personalized fitness built around a 3,500-square-meter spa.

My suggestion: do both. A week of structured work at ADLER, then a few softer days at Rosapetra. I'll arrange a private driver between Val Gardena and Cortina, and VIP arrival service at Venice airport, so the only effort on this trip is the effort you actually signed up for. Let's talk about a Dolomites reset.

The dreamy pool at Chenot Palace Weggis

Switzerland

Switzerland invented this category. It's also my home turf. (I’ve spent a lot of time living and working in the “DACH” countries as we call them — Deutschland, Austria, and die Schweiz/Switzerland.)

Chenot Palace Weggis, Lake Lucerne (Virtuoso)

A Belle Époque palace on the lake with a 5,000-square-meter medical spa attached. Programs are built around the Chenot Method and run a minimum of seven nights: diagnostics, treatments, and a plant-based detox diet. This is not a weekend thing. It's about 48 km from Zurich airport, and I'll have a private driver waiting for you when you arrive.

La Réserve Genève (Virtuoso)

La Réserve has been doing longevity for more than 20 years, long before it was a trend. Its Spa Nescens programs were developed by anti-aging pioneer Professor Jacques Proust, and the 4- and 6-day versions include blood tests, medical consultations, fitness coaching, and meals.

Clinique La Prairie, Montreux

The original. Its 7-day Revitalization programs combine cellular therapies with medical care.

Geneva, Montreux, and Lucerne are all within a few hours of each other. If you want to pair a program with a few days of private touring afterward, that's my specialty, and I'll build the itinerary around how you feel when you walk out. Book a free consultation.

One of the pools at Kamalaya Koh Samui

Thailand

Thailand has been doing wellness for centuries. Massage, herbal medicine, meditation. Now it has some of the most advanced longevity programs in Asia too, at a fraction of Swiss prices. I have been to Kamalaya Koh Samui multiple times and I love it. I’m hoping to return in 2027, but a lot of that depends on my dad’s situation.

RAKxa Integrative Wellness, Bangkok (Virtuoso)

The most medical of the group. RAKxa sits on Bang Krachao, a protected green river island about 15 km from central Bangkok, and it's backed by Bumrungrad International Hospital. That means genetic testing, hormone screening, gut microbiome mapping, cryotherapy, and hyperbaric oxygen. New for 2026: an Integrative Longevity program, plus Women's Health, Energy Renewal, and Sleep Enhancement.

Chiva-Som, Hua Hin (Virtuoso)

The grande dame. Chiva-Som has been open since 1995 and still sets the standard for a structured, results-driven stay. Programs now include epigenetic testing so treatments can be tailored to your genes, alongside serious physiotherapy. It's a few hours' drive south of Bangkok, and that drive is where a vetted private driver earns their keep.

Kamalaya, Koh Samui (Virtuoso)

Kamalaya is built around a cave Buddhist monks once used for meditation, and it's the place I'd send someone burned out rather than someone who wants lab work. It has kept pace with the science, though: Brain Enhancement programs use neurofeedback and hyperbaric oxygen.

Virtuoso clients get an upgrade on arrival when available and a private 45-minute consultation with one of Kamalaya's naturopaths before you even arrive, so your program is set up before you land.

I’ve had some treatments here that I still think about. For anyone experiencing burnout, let me help you!

Amanpuri, Phuket

Aman's first resort, and still one of its best. Less clinical than the others. Come for the wellness immersions, the quiet, and the water.

My preferred build: start with a few days at RAKxa for diagnostics, then head south to Kamalaya or Chiva-Som to put the results to work. I'll arrange VIP fast-track arrival at Bangkok's airport and private touring in Bangkok on the way in, because you should eat well in Bangkok before you eat virtuously anywhere else. Talk to me about a Thailand wellness trip.

Closer to Home, and at Sea: The Carlyle, Sensei Lānaʻi, and Four Seasons 1

Rosewood The Carlyle, New York (Rosewood Elite)

If Rosapetra's Valmont news is the hook, this is the version you can do this month. The Carlyle's Valmont Spa offers the Art of Longevity by Valmont: a DNA and lifestyle analysis, expert guidance, and treatments built around the results. A longevity program you can fit between dinner reservations.

Sensei Lānaʻi, A Four Seasons Resort, Hawaii (Four Seasons Preferred Partner)

The closest thing to a longevity clinic that still feels like Hawaii. Program slots book out months ahead, so plan early.

Four Seasons 1: the Lanserhof Reset (Four Seasons Yachts)

This one is new and very much my world. Four Seasons has partnered with Lanserhof, the German longevity clinic, on an eight-day Lanserhof Reset aboard Four Seasons 1 during its first transatlantic crossing this fall. It starts with a consultation at the onboard medical center. A crossing is the ideal setting: no ports, no distractions, a week at sea with nothing to do but get better.

Same Idea, Gentler Budget

Hacienda del Sol, San Juanillo, Costa Rica

If you're curious about longevity but not ready for a week at Chenot, start here. Hacienda del Sol is a small wellness sanctuary in the jungle on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the world's Blue Zones, known for an unusually high number of people living into their 90s and beyond. The beach is five minutes away.

The format is simple: seven days, your own private bungalow, chef-made meals with produce grown on the property, daily yoga and movement, bodywork, and hydrotherapy. No lab work. No diagnostics. Just the habits the Blue Zones are famous for, done properly for a week. It's built for the person who's usually taking care of everyone else.

One honest note: it's remote, about three hours from major medical facilities, and they ask for your health history when you book. I'll arrange a private driver from Liberia airport so the last leg isn't your problem.
